02.19 StoryCorps Associate Producer

Associate Producer, Griot Initiative
Reports to Senior Producer
Production Department

StoryCorps, and its parent organization Sound Portraits Productions, are looking for a part-time temporary Associate Producer for a one-year position. StoryCorps is a widely acclaimed national oral-history project that celebrates our shared humanity and collective identity. Created by the award-winning non-profit documentary company Sound Portraits Productions, StoryCorps is the largest oral-history project ever undertaken.

The StoryCorps Griot Initiative is a one-year grassroots national tour that brings StoryCorps directly into African American lives and communities across the nation. The Associate Producer will be responsible for cutting 24 segments for NPR from StoryCorps Griot material.

The Associate Producer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Track, listen to, and edit numerous interviews for broadcast on National Public Radio.
* Listen to interviews from StoryCorps Griot to identify potential tape for broadcast;
* Work regularly with the StoryCorps Griot booth facilitators to edit tape;
* Serve as an active member of the StoryCorps production team.

Requirements:
The ideal candidate must be proficient at ProTools, have an ear for stories that reflect our shared humanity and believe strongly in the StoryCorps mission. The position requires strong attention to detail, the desire and ability to sit with headphones on listening to tape for numerous hours each day. You must also be organized and deadline oriented. This person should be self directed and motivated, yet also thrive in a collaborative team environment. This is a dream job for the right person.

Qualifications:
* Expertise in ProTools or another audio editing program
* Ability to produce broadcast quality stories
* Experience shaping and editing stories in any media
* Ability to be flexible and adaptable, and contribute to problem-solving activities within a growing, changing organizational environment.
* Good research, writing and communication skills


Salary: $25K annualized; 25 hour/wk position. This is a one-year position to begin in April 1, 2007.
