Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, Smithsonian
Institution, a New York museum devoted exclusively to
historic and contemporary design, seeks talented students for
Summer 2007. The Cooper-Hewitt offers approximately thirteen
paid internships each summer through the Peter Krueger Summer
Internship Program.

Interns work directly within a host department, contributing
significantly to the museum's exhibitions, outreach, and
management. Throughout the summer, interns meet with staff
members from various departments to learn about all aspects
of museum work.  Additionally, interns will embark on outings
within the city to get to know one another and to enjoy the
cultural jewels of New York!

Candidates should have a genuine interest in design as well
as have educational background in a related field. To be
eligible, candidates must:

•         Be currently enrolled in a degree-granting
institution,

•         Have graduated from a degree-granting institution
in the last 6 months, or

•         Have evidence that they have been accepted into a
degree-granting graduate program within 6 months

Past internships have included appointments in the Curatorial
Departments of Product Design and Decorative Arts, Textiles,
Drawings and Prints, Wallcoverings, the Library, the office
of the Curatorial Director, School Programs, National Design
Awards, External Affairs, Traveling Exhibitions, Registrar,
Textiles Conservation, Paper Conservation, Press, Web Design,
and IT Services.

Applications must be postmarked no later February 1, 2007 and
require a cover letter, resume, formal Smithsonian
Institution application, essay, transcripts from all previous
colleges, and two letters of recommendation. Applicants
should identify three departments in which they would prefer
to gain experience in.
