In early 2007, George Packer published an article in The New Yorker about Iraqi interpreters who jeopardized their lives on behalf of the Americans in Iraq, with little or no protection or security from the U.S. The article drew national attention to the humanitarian crisis and the moral scandal. Based on Packer’s interviews in Baghdad, Betrayed tells the story of three young Iraqis—two men and one woman—who are motivated to risk everything by America’s promise of freedom.  Betrayed explores the complex relationships among the Iraqis themselves and between them and their American supervisor, as they struggle to find purpose while a country collapses around them.  Betrayed is directed by Pippin Parker and features Jeremy Beck, Aadya Bedi, Mike Doyle, Ramsey Faragallah, Sevan Greene and Waleed F. Zuaiter.

Nominated for the Lucille Lortel award for Outstanding Play!

The clarity of the writing, the urgency of the story being told, and the fine performances give the play a sharp dramatic impact and a plain-spoken beauty.”

Embracing the notion that art can and should actively address and engage contemporary issues, QMA has invited five contemporary artists - Emmy Catedral, Takashi Horisaki, Sara Rahbar, José Ruiz, and Tattfoo Tan - to partner with religious institutions in Flushing to create works that respond to religious dialogue and exchange.

Writer/director Shoshona Currier delves deep into America's celebrity obsession and gives a savage send-up of a country hell bent on escapism even when all around it things are falling apart.  With text compiled from speeches of General George Patton, General Douglas MacArthur, Winston Churchill, interviews with Lizzie Grubman, Mary Kay Letourneau, Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, and Gwyneth Paltrow, and works by Seneca, Georges Bataille, and Brett Easton Ellis, The Shalimar retells the timeless Phaedra myth. CAAL NIGHT: PRIVATE TOUR OF THE NEUE GALERIE
DATE: Monday, May 19
TIME:  6:00PM
PRICE: $23
RSVP: By calling 212.851.1879 or purchase online

Enjoy a private tour, outside of museum hours, of the Neue Galerie's current "Gustav Klimt" and “Wiener Werkstätte Jewelry" exhibits. "Gustav Klimt: Five Paintings from the Collection of Ferdinand and Adele Bloch-Bauer” consists of masterworks by Klimt that had been restituted to Maria Altmann and the heirs of the Bloch-Bauer family by the Austrian government. The best-known of the five works in the exhibition is Adele Bloch-Bauer I, a "once-in-a-lifetime acquisition" recently made by the Galerie. The second exhibition highlights pieces created by the Wiener Werkstätte between the firm’s inception in 1903 and 1920; work whose beauty lies in the way it blurs the line between precious ornament and miniature sculpture.

Sixteen-year-old Kelly is having a normal Saturday when her unknown father shows up out of the blue. It turns out he’s from Iraq and runs the National Museum in Baghdad. He’s brought with him a priceless antique vase which he wants to give to Kelly for safe-keeping. Now he has a plane to catch, but Kelly threatens to smash the vase unless he stays and gets to know her. So begins an epic journey of discovery in a tender and provocative play about family, identity and the clash of cultures. From rising star playwright Mike Bartlett, writer-in-residence at the Royal Court and 2007 London Evening Standard nominee for best new playwright.
