"I'm definitely glad I joined CAAL after graduating.  I've been able to join the Fourth Ring society at the NYCBallet, attend a lecture at the Public Theater, and use the discounts for tickets around the city.  CAAL gives a nice lineup of special events and highlights an incredible network of participating institutions, along with a great network of young alumni!  There is so much going on in New York, it can sometimes be overwhelming--this is a great way to experience some of the amazing things New York has to offer!”

-Peggy Hannon (CC '05)

"Getting involved in CAAL has been my number one favorite alumni way to reconnect with the school. The events are terrific and varied, from Baryshnikov in Beckett Shorts in the East Village to classical NYC Ballet at Lincoln Center to amazing free concerts at Joe's Pub. The alumni who attend the events are as individual as the events themselves, coming from all parts of Columbia -- Journalism, Business, Education, you name it, and all ages. Truly an amazing opportunity the like of which I don't believe exists anywhere else in the world. Don't miss out!"
-Laura Faludi (MBA '03)

CAAL Members had a chance to meet Paquito D’Rivera and Wynton Marsalis backstage after the JALC performance of Beyond the Spanish Tinge.

"If you enjoy the arts in New York City, like getting great seats at discounted prices for sell-out performances, and would like to meet and talk with performers after the shows in a private setting, then joining the CAAL for a modest fee that pays for itself immediately is a ‘no-brainer.’  My wife Ronnie (Teachers College '74) and I, along with our "guests" (my son and his girlfriend), enjoyed relaxing and talking with several cast members of Cirque du Soleil's Wintuk after the show at a bar that had reserved its entire upper floor just for CAAL. The next night we had amazing box seats for the Paquito D'Rivera concert with Wynton Marsalis at the Jazz at Lincoln Center--we could easily read the titles on the musicians' sheet music from where we sat about twenty feet away--and then after the show got to meet both of them. We had a lot of fun at both events, which ran smoothly due to the hard work and preparation of CAAL. I experienced this firsthand when the post office failed to deliver my Wintuk tickets on time (even though CAAL sent them priority mail).  CAAL not only had the box office reprint new tickets, but also had someone personally deliver them to me at the show to make sure that I received them. That's what I call service. I am looking forward to future CAAL events and am spreading the word among my friends and family who are Columbia grads."

Prof. Harwood and AI Director Mosher spoke with members during a complimentary reception before Stoppard's sold-out show, Rock 'n' Roll on 10.23.07

"I enjoyed the event and appreciate the work you are doing to make both the arts more accessible to Columbia alumni and to bring us together…I think CAAL is doing a great job and look forward to attending more events in the future."
-Paula Flores (SIPA ’97)

CAAL Members enjoyed a complimentary reception and symposium before seeing the premiere of A Requiem for Anna Politkovskaya.

"I am glad that I had a chance to meet you and want to thank you for making it possible to attend the Requiem yesterday, which was a most poignant, informative, and touching event."
-Jean Golden (SW '66)

"I loved the evening - interesting and informative pre-performance talk; and then good drinks and conversation.”

-Bernadette Cullen (JN '81)

"The evening was wonderfully orchestrated and very impressive.”
-Leni Kreitman (JD/SIPA '76 )

"'My Trip to Al-Qaeda' is the best Columbian event I've been to since my daughter graduated SIPA!  It was terrific.”

-Jack Mendelsohn (SIPA '77)

"Melanie and I want to thank you again for orchestrating such a wonderful evening. Without CAAL's sponsorship and your personal efforts, we would have missed a great evening of theatre and the opportunity to meet fellow alums.”
-Dory Winkelman (AC '86)

"My wife and I enjoyed the New York Philharmonic Concert in Central Park CAAL Night very much, not least because you were so friendly and enthusiastic in your hospitality.  Keep up the good work!”

-Ludwig Howard Adams (JD '79)

"Worked out splendidly. Met some lovely people and we've been in touch ever since. Thanks!”
-Margo Greene (BC'69, GSAS '72)

"'Carla's List’ was the first CAAL event I attended, and it far exceeded my highest expectations. Hearing Carla Del Ponte speak after seeing her inspiring work in the film as Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia was really a treat. Thank you, CAAL, for securing tickets to this truly memorable event!”

-Kristin Vukovic (GS '06)

"I had the distinct pleasure of attending two CAAL events last week: the NY Premiere of Carla’s List and Inherit the Wind Broadway performance.   Standing by themselves, both performances were superb, -- however, to be followed by a post-performance opportunity for the alums to speak with Carla del Ponte and Brian Dennehy catapulted these wonderful entertainment experiences to beyond outstanding.  All the administrative details from obtaining these much coveted tickets to wonderfully placed seats were made possible by the incredibly diligent and friendly team staff at CAAL.  As a result, both evenings were smooth and flawless!  It is such a pleasure to be part of this wonderful alumni league!"
-Susan Lee (JD '90)

"I had an amazing time at 'Coram Boy’…these are exactly the kind of events that I would like to attend...ones where there is a critical engagement with what is transpiring, whether it be an art installation or performance piece.  It allows for community amongst peers and the larger community of the arts.”

–Chad Miller (GS '07)

"On a stand-alone basis, the 'Many Moods of Miles Davis’ at Jazz at Lincoln Center was a great event.  However, what really made the night so memorable and even more enjoyable was to have two Columbia alumni experts on Miles Davis give us an introduction to jazz and Davis' work.  Adding in the opportunity to sip some wine and meet fellow alumni resulted in a great a night out.  Looking forward to the next event.”
-Peter Paone (MBA '96)

"'My Trip to Al-Qaeda’ was certainly the most enjoyable alumni event I have participated in -- the performance was a remarkably compelling way to gain insights about the world we have to live in, and the conversation afterward was just plain fun.  I look forward to more Alumni Arts events very soon.”

-Brian Rafferty (CC '88)
