July 11 2009

3 Beekman Street
Beacon, NY 12508
845.440.0100

Saturday 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Located on the Hudson River in Beacon, New York, Dia:Beacon occupies a nearly 300,000-square-foot historic printing factory.  The permanent collection is comprised of major works of art from the 1960s to the present, rarely seen by the public. CAAL Members had an hour-long guided tour of the Dia galleries, where they had the opportunity to walk through the Michael Heizer galleries, which are closed to the public.  After the tour, CAAL members spent the evening on Beacon's main street, where they took part in a reception with complimentary food and wine at the RiverWinds Gallery for their exhibition "Salute to the Hudson River - from a Photographer's Eye." In addition to this reception, CAAL members took advantage of Beacon's many other offerings during Second Saturday Beacon.

Second Saturday Beacon is a city-wide celebration of the arts held on the second Saturday of every month when galleries and shops stay open until 9pm. Beacon has been described by The New York Times as "The Hudson Valley's most promising hot spot for contemporary art." In addition to great art, Beacon now offers a thriving culture of food, shopping and entertainment with spectacular historical destinations rich with Hudson Valley history.
